What business book would you recommend to someone who is either about to launch or in the early growth stage? Anything and everything by Seth Godin.

What are your thoughts on raising capital? To always stay focused on your mission and values, and to surround yourself with those whose vision and ethics align with yours, people who you admire and believe in, and those who believe in you.

As entrepreneurs we have so many things pulling at us, where do you recommend women starting out focus their time and energy? I believe in priorities over “being busy”, so find out what matters to you, what lights you up, what makes you feel alive, and stay as close as possible to that, and align your decisions around that axis.

What do you know now that you didn’t know then that could have saved you time, money, and heartache? Well, I suppose I knew this, but it’s hard advice to follow no matter what: we don’t control that much anyway, so focus on what you can control, and see every problem as an opportunity.

What piece of invaluable advice did you receive that you would like to pass on to women pursuing their dream? Invest in people who invest in you. Go where the love is. Choose love, not fear. No one has your voice and your unique perspective. You have a story to tell and a voice that deserves to be heard. Find out what matters to you, find your community, find your purpose and your passions, and live your life in accordance with your deepest values and the causes that make you feel alive. For me, it’s all about remembering why I do what I do. It’s all about helping people, and investing in them so they can make their own choices about their lives, and live with dignity and joy, on their terms. When I feel lost or really challenged by something, that is what I try to remember: that life is about connecting with people, learning from them, and trying to help when you can.

Give us your top five tips that would benefit a woman who is starting or growing her business:

  1. Find your tribe and your community.
  2. Your team is everything, treat them accordingly.
  3. The most important thing in life is to be kind (that includes to yourself).
  4. Figure out what your core beliefs and deepest passions are, and let those guide you home.
  5. Having grit and a growth mindset are some of the keys to finding your own version of success.
