DREAM CATCHER: ASHLEY COOPER
Ashley Cooper is the designer and creative director of Ashley Cooper Design. She’s been immersed in design since childhood, when her interior designer mother taught her fundamental design principles from an early age. She was one of those kids who could always be found creating some kind of art project or doing a craft, and for whom practicing her handwriting (on everything!) was a treat instead of a chore. It was only natural that a degree in fashion design followed, further cultivating her eye for style and love for the art of fashion. After receiving local and national recognition for her fashion illustrations (including being named a finalist in the Aquafina / Project Runway “Pure Challenge” contest), she expanded her brand from textile and surface designs to include fashion illustrations and typography prints. Her work has been featured in Rue Magazine, The Glitter Guide, and numerous fashion blogs.
What’s the most important thing you have learned so far with regard to your business? No matter how big or small another business is, treat everyone with respect and make them feel like they matter. When I first launched my business I had certain people who treated me with respect when I didn’t yet have a name, a following or even any sales, and their kindness made the biggest impression on me.
What bit of wisdom would you give a woman ready to launch her business? Be true to yourself.
What sets you apart from your competition? Unlike traditional fashion illustrations, which are usually created by hand drawing or watercolor painting, I create all my illustrations through vectors on the computer.
What piece of invaluable advice would like to pass on to women pursuing their dream? I believe in trusting yourself. I also believe in inspiration. When you combine trust and inspiration, amazing things can be created and accomplished.
What are you inspired by these days? Fashion bloggers.
