EXPERT ADVICE: KELLEY LILIEN
What advice would you give a start-up blogger on creating and maintaining social media platforms? Don’t create a platform just to have one and not utilize it. I won’t say I haven’t made this mistake myself BUT choose the one(s) that are most fitting for your brand and GO FOR IT. Be consistent and remain authentic.
What mistakes do you see many bloggers making? I think it’s pretty commonplace for bloggers to find themselves swayed by the content and status of their peers. When this is the case, it is easy to loose that pure authenticity that started it all. Staying true to who you are and making content that you love is the golden ticket.
What trends do you think bloggers and other content creators should be paying attention to? This is a toughie. Personally, I’m not one to keep up with the trends as I very seldom read other blogs. Most importantly, remain inspired by those in the blogging community. Uplift, share, and cheer on!
How important is networking for a new blogger, and would you recommend attending blogging conferences? Networking is simply a goldmine. It is NEVER a bad idea. When I first began blogging and later when I published my first book, I was really good about showing face and meeting lovely people. Now my face-to-face networking probabilities are more slim, but I take full advantage of all the e-networking I can get! I actually enjoy it even MORE. (shhh!!!)
What piece of invaluable advice did you receive that you would like to pass on to women pursuing their dream? Honestly, I could shed some serious light with an ever-inspiring, never heard before line but I feel like it’s much more simple than that. I am the BIGGEST believer in where and how far confidence can get you.
What are some of the business resources you can’t live without? The Lively Show podcast – Jess Lively is one of a kind. She interviews some of the most inspiring and successful entrepreneurial women, and she does it in a way in which every word is articulated and remembered for all eternity. Also, Create & Cultivate. It’s a creative conference and online platform for women entrepreneurs in the digital space. It’s every bit as glittery as it sounds! Finally, The B Bar. “Cocktails and Cure-Alls for blogs and businesses.” Needless to say, I am still bowing down. Hands down one of the most fabulous resources I’ve ever crossed paths with.
Give us your top five tips that would benefit a woman who is starting or growing her blog or business:
- Make friends with your intuition; she won’t EVER do you wrong.
- Rant from your own rooftop and drink from your own cauldron.
- Concern yourself NOT with who’s looking, what’s trending, or what others are gaining success from.
- Establish your own voice from the get go and never lose sight.
- Invest in HELP.
