DREAM CATCHER: CAROLINE MCGRAW
California native Caroline McGraw’s pioneering spirit and passion for leading people into action and out of poverty have led her to take on many roles over the years. She’s a humanitarian, producer, author and global activist with a particular commitment to Swaziland, a kingdom in Africa of less than one million people, over one-third of whom are orphaned or vulnerable children. It has the highest rate of HIV/AIDS in the world, which is moving the country toward extinction. Inspired by MLK’s historic 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery for the right of African-Americans to vote, she created and produced her own 122-mile walk across Swaziland to bring much-needed attention to the plight of orphans in the country and the need for community development. She recently produced her first feature documentary, Never a Neverland (NNL), which is a film and companion campaign to connect audiences with humanitarian efforts to ensure that Swaziland never becomes a “Neverland”. So far they have almost one dozen corporate partners who are working to provide medical aid, orphan care, and social entrepreneurship opportunities to the Swazi people. NNL was awarded Best Documentary by Women in Film & Television and was an official selection of the 2014 Justice Film Festival in Los Angeles. To learn more, you can visit the NNL site or watch the promotional short that accompanies NNL’s action campaign, Steps Over Swaziland.
What are the three words that best describe you? Love. Faith. Action.
What three words best describe your company? Create. Collaborate. Community.
The most important thing I have learned so far is… That everyone has story, and that all stories should be told, and that we should listen and learn. Everyone deserves love, dignity and grace.
Five years from now I see myself and my business… Utilizing the power of story to connect people, create community and inspire change by filming stories in Africa, Ireland and New Zealand.
“Hope deferred makes a heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” - Proverbs 13:12
LET’S GET PERSONAL:
Right now, I can’t get enough… Wisdom! May we all remain students of this incredible attribute!
Lately, I’m inspired by… Grace O’Malley, Ireland’s Pirate Queen. I hope to do a feature film on her someday!
Name a woman who inspires you and why? There are two women who inspire me more than any others, and they are my daughters. They are both extraordinary women who are rooted in love and who give their time, talent and love away, locally and globally, everyday via through their own businesses and lives.
